YES. If you want to play again, you must submit a new application. Some acts have been privately invited in the past. If you are part of one of those acts, you will STILL need to submit an application to show interest again.
This year in particular we are giving preference to new acts. Last year we received nearly 200 submissions and we anticipate this number will dramatically increase this year. If you've played once before, we may ask you to play again. If you've played multiple years, then we will likely select an artist/band that has never played. We still encourage you to apply no matter what your alumni status is.
If you apply you need to be open to any time/day/stage assignment. Lineup positions are based on many factors and selections are made in such a way that benefit the festival and the guests first and foremost. If you need to play a particular day, then we will likely accommodate, but please only apply if you are open to playing any time slot including an opening set.
We need to be able to listen to your music to make a selection. Unfortunately youtube videos and other video recordings do not showcase your sound clearly enough. We also need to be able to listen to more than one song to get a feel for the sounds as a whole. If you don't have recorded music, then we encourage you to apply during the next submission round where you are able to fulfill this requirement.
We are open to all genres and styles, but if selected, you must be able to perform a clean set.
MUSIC: We diversify our lineup which means that we only select a limited quantity of each style. We are open to all styles and encourage everyone to attend. We do ask that your set refrain from NSFW material.
COMEDY: Please make sure that you can perform a clean set. We are okay with some mature content, but please refrain from excessive cursing, lewd content, sexual or "fully blue" content, or any other material that would be inappropriate for an audience under 13.
We mean typically NorCal, surrounding Sacramento area that spans from the Foothills to the Bay and throughout the Sacramento Valley. Unsure? Submit anyway.
We will begin notifying those who submitted in January of 2018. We encourage patience with the application process. If you would like to check on your application, please reach out to the festival email rather than use social media to contact those who are involved in planning. If your application is declined, we encourage you to attend the festival anyway and support your fellow artists. We're all in this together and nothing is personal.
Please focus your bio on describing your music itself, tell us where you originated from, mention some accomplishments you're proud of. An ideal bio is concise and consists of 1 to 2 paragraphs at most. This bio will be used on the website and to announce your addition to the lineup. If you had to describe what to expect from your band/act to someone who's never heard of you, this is where you'll do it. Please take your time on this and take it seriously. If selected, it will be used in several places and be the first introduction that thousands of people have to you.
Yes. You will be required to promo the event in order to maintain your spot in the lineup. You will be provided with a custom graphics package that will be formatted for your social media. There will be certain posts that we will ask you to share with your friends on social media. None of this will be excessive, but it will be required. If you are unable to fulfill this, then it may affect your place in the lineup.
Yes. You will be provided with a cash stipend for your performance at First Festival. We will make an offer upon acceptance into the lineup.
First we sort them into categories and then we listen. We listen to ALL OF THE THEM. We look at your social media. We look at your website. We listen some more. We sort them again. Sometimes we come and watch your live show (whether we tell you or not). We ask questions if we have them. We check to see if you are accessible online-- it's important that people can find you and learn more about you before they decide to get a ticket and show up. We don't make judgement based on social media followers, music views, or retweets... We make judgments based on how your sound fits into the lineup. We appreciate a unique sound. We focus on diversity. We are open to experimental styles. We give everyone a fair shot and we don't play favorites.
Headliners are typically invited outside of the submission process, but we may pull headliners from those who have submitted. If you want to play and are hoping for one of the headliner spots, then submit. If you were a headliner before and you want to play again, then submit. Our headliners are chosen based on several factors that include but are not limited to: making up a diverse reflection of the Sacramento music scene at first blush, ability to draw a crowd from outside the region, and overall sound.
